I've titled this post "Weekends" seeing as how my first one is pretty much over. My weekend started on Thursday afternoon. I do after all, get out of work at 1230 in the afternoon. However this weekend was different because it was my first weekend on my Paleo diet. It was pretty much non-existent this weekend and I'll tell you why..
First, I get out of work incredibly early. Secondly, on this particular Thursday I had a dentist appointment to remove some of the rotting decay from my teeth that has come from years of drinking Red Bulls and Cokes. Yes all of my teeth are still intact.. Except for those pulled for the purpose of braces or my own well being (wisdom teeth) and I don't have methmouth or anything just that cavities are hidden all over my mouth. None the less it was quite an ordeal. I also have TMJ meaning my jaw will lock in the open/closed position on occasion causing horrible pain. And sitting in a chair for an extended period of time with you're mouth open wider then it ever should be doesn't really help the cause. So they drilled away at my teeth, and my wallet seeing as dental work is never cheap. And I came out feeling like I got punched in the jaw and had my teeth.. well, drilled on. So after that traumatizing event I had to celebrate. And by celebrate I mean eat an almost complete bag of Hot Cheetos (not the super big one, super small one, but lunch size) on the opposite side of my mouth. Leaving my mouth pretty much raw from all the acidity. But they were delicious.
This is my struggle with weight loss and size. Publicized.

4 Days In
I'm 4 days into a 42 day challenge. That's 9.5% of the way through. Doesnt seem like much but it's almost 10%... who am I fooling? This is like being only knee dip in quick sand. There's hope but almost sure demise. Well none the less I've done fairly well with my food. And logging it really does make you more accountable to what you take in throughout the day.
Workouts? Not so much. I went Monday. Warm up was 2 rounds of 400m run and 30 sit ups and I didnt come in last!! Then we worked on front squats 3-3-3 max weight was 90lbs although I know I could have done more. I was really limited in weight and such because it was such a large class that day and all the girls have to rotate to get their reps in. Lame. After that our "real" workout happened.. Yes this was just for pure joy. Can you sense the sarcasm? You should, because I'm laying it on pretty thick. It was a Cindy AMRFT in 10min: 5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 Air Squats. So my pull ups are assisted by a rubber band and my push ups are also moderated by lying flat in between each one. But don't be decieved, they are still difficult. Anywho, I did 7 rounds and wanted to die, as I often do, afterwards. And I always feel so awesome afterwards because I feel as if I accomplished something that not the average person could do. People look at the workouts and think, "Oh sure, that's easy", but when you are moving as quick as you possibly can for every movement back-to-back-to-back.. it starts to sink in. And CrossFit names a lot of their WODs after women.. which I have come to the conclusion that it's because they're such a bitch to do, only a womens name would be appropriate.
I skipped yesterday because I was ridiculously tired. I actually planned on going. Came home took a quick nap for only 45 minutes, but somehow woke up and realized it was 2 and a half hours later. Failure. But I really was tired. Tired enough to sleep 2.5 hours get up eat then go right back to sleep. So I justify my laziness.
And then we come to Wednesday. My CHEAT meal day!! As in most diets there is an opportunity to cheat. Only difference in this one that I haven't seen in others is that this is not a full day, pig out and become the epitome of a glutton, not to mention one of the 7 deadly sins... But just 1 meal. So choose wisely. I will be having Jersey Mikes. A Club Sub w/ Mayo, Mikes Way hold the tomato w/ Original SunChips and a Cherry Pepsi. I'm obviously much to excited about this but A. It has Cheese, B. It has Bread, C. It has Mayo and D. I love sandwiches.. Who doesn't love sandwiches?? Geez!

So there's kind of this 6 week challenge thing..
I've blogged briefly a few years back and got pretty into it. After a little while I kind of lost interest and forgot all about it until I randomly thought about this one post I did on all the characters from McDonalds i.e. Grimace, The Hamburglar.. then I'd go look up my blog and read it and find it as entertaining as the time I posted it. Well life's changed quite a bit since then. I'm not gonna go into the details but here's the reason for this blog. I'm doing a 6 week Paleo challenge and we'll go a little more into detail as to what brought me here today.
I am a CrossFitter. Just google it if you want to know what it is.. And no, I'm not one of those super buff girls with extra tight abs and sexy toned arms. Although I hope to be some day. So I've done CrossFit on and off for almost a year now (more off than on) and I'm really ready to see some results. I spent a good 15 minutes complaining to my boyfriend last week about how I'm not seeing the changes that I would like. He asked me a simple question.. "How are you doing with your diet" and of course I tried to beat around the bush and push off blame because I knew it was a half-ass effort I was making. So that day, all down on my life, I went to the gym where I do CrossFit. My favorite of the gyms I've gone to. 3rd time was really a charm. And as I'm stretching getting ready for the workout that I'll soon regret I'm asked by the owner if I'll be participating in the Paleo challenge. And I say "What challenge?" So she goes on to explain that this is a 6 week Paleo Diet challenge. 6 weeks of clean eating.. Like really clean. Not clean with a RedBull and a canned Coke. And here it was.. the answer to my bullshit complaints landed right in my lap. I had to change my diet. So after some encouraging words and recipes from some of the other girls I reluctantly signed myself up. This would cost me $15 to do a Body Composition Analysis. Measures your body fat, water percentages and breaks down the amount of fat you have in pounds and shows you what's good and bad fat. Money well spent I think. So I don't have my results on hand but I'll make sure to post them when i get to them. And the prizes are 1st place gets one month free membership (a $125 value) 2nd place is 50% off the month and 3rd place is 25% off the month. I could really care less about the prizes to be honest. I want the personal gain that I hope to get from this i.e. shed some pounds and definitely some inches around the waist.
So what is Paleo exactly you might ask?? It's a huge list of things you can't eat. In the shortest most direct terms possible. Depressing isn't it? So it can be.. When me and my boyfriend went grocery shopping yesterday we found ourselves scrambling to eat every deep fried, carbed up, buttery, sugary thing imaginable. Although I was really hungover and extra thirsty so I pretty much was full off all the liquids I took in that day. And so lets get a serious answer on the Paleo Diet, trigger Wikipedia: The modern dietary regimen known as the Paleolithic diet (abbreviated paleo diet or paleodiet), also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various human species habitually consumed during the Paleolithic era—a period of about 2.5 million years duration that ended around 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture. In common usage, such terms as the "Paleolithic diet" also refer to the actual ancestral human diet.[1][2] Centered on commonly available modern foods, the "contemporary" Paleolithic diet consists mainly of grass-fed pasture raised meats, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.
So my super awesome boyfriend decided he would be doing this diet along side me and after many many conversations he's decided to also do CrossFit with me as well. It took a lot of convincing and guilt-tripping to get this to happen but none the less here we are. Day 1 of 42. Now my Paleo book allows for 3 cheat meals.. not days, but meals a week on Level 1 which we'll do for 2 weeks. Level 2 only allows 2 meals for 2 weeks and Level 3 only 1 meal for 2 weeks. It's gonna take everything in me to stick to this but it could be the start of something great. Did I mention there's no alcohol..? Like I said.. Great. So today I've logged my food in MyFitnessPal.com to track my calorie intake and done pretty good. Still have to get home and nap hopefully get a little workout in to really start strong. There's no CrossFit on Sundays.. Mon-Sat only even though my week really looks like a Mon-Wed.. Can we say "half-ass"? I bet we can. So I'm going to try and take myself through this day by day and blogging and tracking everything. If I'm constantly involved with it I figure there's less room for error.
